Terms of use

PyPath is a free Python course. These terms are the agreement between you and PyPath when you use the site or create an account. They are written to be read, not to be skimmed past — if something here is not acceptable to you, please do not create an account.

Who may sign up

You may create an account if you are 13 or older. If you are under 16 in the UK or the EU, or under 13 anywhere, you need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms on your behalf. One person, one account: do not share your password or let someone else use your account.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it. The name you enter is shown to other learners, so use your real first and last name and nothing offensive or impersonating.

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deleting it removes your progress, your saved lesson code, and your record from our database.

What you may do with the course

Learn from it, freely. Work through the lessons, run the exercises, copy the example code into your own projects, and keep whatever you build. The Python you write in the lessons stays yours.

The lesson text, curriculum structure, images, and site design are ours, and are not licensed for republication. Please do not copy the course wholesale onto another site, sell it, or present it as your own work. Linking to it is always welcome.

What you may not do

• Break into, overload, or probe the site or anyone else's account.
• Scrape the course in bulk or automate account creation.
• Use the Sandbox or lesson editors to attack anything, mine cryptocurrency, or run anything unlawful.
• Upload or save content that is illegal, hateful, or harassing.

We may suspend or remove an account that does any of this.

Your progress and your certificate

Progress is recorded as you complete lessons and units, and the end-of-course certificate is issued once all ten units are complete. If you are in a class, your finished work goes to your teacher first and the certificate is issued when they approve it; a teacher who has not approved it yet can still do so later. If you are not in a class, it is issued as soon as you finish. The certificate records that you finished this course. It is not an accredited qualification, it is not issued by an examining body, and it does not certify professional competence.

We do our best to keep your progress safe, but please treat the site as a learning tool rather than a system of record. Export or print anything you need to keep.

How long you spend here

While you are signed in, PyPath records how long you actively spend on the site, so we can see how the course is being used and where learners get stuck. Time counts only while the page is open in front of you and you have interacted with it recently. PyPath staff can see this alongside your progress. The privacy policy explains it in full.

Classes

A teacher account gets a join code and a dashboard showing the learners who entered it. If you use one, you are responsible for who you give the code to, and for having whatever permission you need to see your learners' progress — a school's own rules, or a parent's consent, are matters between you and them, not something PyPath can check for you. Issue a new code if the old one spreads beyond your class.

If you join a class, your teacher sees your name, your progress, your time spent, and your certificate, but not your email address, as set out in the privacy policy. They never see the code you write. They also decide whether your certificate is issued once you finish all ten units. You can leave a class at any time from your account page, from the account menu in the top right of any page.

Do not enter a join code for a class you are not part of.

Free, and provided as-is

PyPath costs nothing and is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We do not promise the site will always be available, free of bugs, or free of errors in the lesson content. To the fullest extent the law allows, PyPath is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Your code runs inside your own browser through Pyodide. Nothing you write in a lesson or the Sandbox is executed on our servers.

Third parties

Accounts, storage, and hosting run on Google Firebase and Vercel, and lessons load Pyodide from a public CDN. Signing in with Google or GitHub means their terms apply to that sign-in as well.

Changes

These terms may change as the course grows. The date at the top always shows the current version, and a material change will be announced on the site. Continuing to use PyPath after a change means you accept the updated terms.
